Becoming a Member of Covenant

Why Join?

Membership in the church is an important part of your spiritual journey. Whenever God has called people to faith, whether in the Old or New Testaments, they have always been called into a community - a body of believers sharing like mind and faith that would encourage, instruct, affirm, and discipline them as they sought to live our their faith in the world. That model continues today; the Christian life cannot be lived in isolation. In fact, it is only in community that you can experience the full blessing that God intends: blessings of personal growth, the sense of belonging, and a sense of fulfillment and purpose in knowing that, in obedience to God, you are worshiping together with His people, building each other up in the faith by sharing gifts, and reaching out in love to a world in need of a Savior.

How Do I Join?

1. By affirming the following three basic questions:

  • Do you accept Jesus Christ as your personal Lord and Savior?
  • Do you seek to live as becomes a follower of Jesus Christ?
  • Will you serve the Church of Jesus Christ with your love and gifts, and will you abide by her discipline?

These questions emphasize the commitment one makes to the church:

  • To Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord
  • To regular worship participation
  • To service
  • To Bible study and prayer
  • To regular financial giving

2. Once the three questions have been affirmed, you may join in one of four ways:

  • By transfer from another Christian denomination;
  • By Reaffirmation of Faith;
  • By Profession of faith in Jesus Christ;
  • By Affiliation (retaining main membership in home church)

To indicate your interest in joining Covenant's family of faith or to speak with someone concerning questions you may have, please contact the church office, (239) 334-8937. You may also check the "Interested in Membership" box on the burgundy or blue Friendship Pad found on any pew in our sanctuary or e-mail us.

History of the Spiritual Gifts Process

Since May of 2000, a Spiritual Gifts Committee has been working on implementing a gift-based volunteer ministry. In February of 2001, the Session of Covenant Church approved the Spiritual Gifts Process. Using the internationally recognized Network materials, the Spiritual Gifts Committee has been at work to carry out this process.

To date, almost three hundred people have completed the Discovery Sessions, fourteen consultants have been trained, and three teachers have been prepared to teach Discovery Sessions.

Spiritual Gifts Process

Covenant members are encouraged to discover their Spiritual Gifts so they can serve in the areas in which God has gifted them.

What is the Spiritual Gifts Process?

The Spiritual Gifts process is a Bible-based way for believers to find their place of service to God. This process places people where God means them to serve, founded on their God-given desire for where to serve (their "passion"), their spiritual gifts and their personal style. The Spiritual Gifts process is a way of  "doing church," not just adding on another program.

This is a three-step process:

  • Step One: The Discovery Session where you will learn your individual Servant Profile of Passion, Spiritual Gifts and Personal Style.
  • Step Two: Consultation, a one-on-one discussion with a trained consultant at Covenant who will affirm your Servant Profile and guide you to areas of ministry that are a match for your individual design.
  • Step Three: Service, connection to a place of ministry where you will be fruitful and fulfilled in a meaningful place of service, which could be here at Covenant, in the community or in your own specially-created ministry.
